Before you begin hunting for truck toolboxes, there are a few important things to consider about the toolboxes you purchase, whether they’re tool totes or trailer tongue tool boxes.
The first thing to consider is the frequency with which you use your tools. If you’re not a professional contractor, builder, or someone who enjoys working on vehicles regularly, then your purchase decisions will probably be easy. However, if you use your tools frequently, then you’ll want to do a little online research to determine which of the many truck toolboxes out there will best suit your needs and vehicle.
The next factor to consider is the number of tools you have. Your basic screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers and pliers probably don’t require a large storage unit. But if you also use additional items such as sockets, meters, files, gauges, etc., then you’ll want to consider a larger toolbox–possibly with multiple drawers, trays and compartments.
Next, consider the safety and security required for your tools. If theft is a concern, or if you have small children at home, then you should look into getting a toolbox that locks. Most smaller tool boxes are equipped with a lock and key, and several toolbox models also come equipped with self-locking drawers.
