From Delinquent to Bail Bondsman
Nov 11, 2008
When I was in my late teens and early twenties I was constantly in trouble. Usually for petty stuff, but even that can add up to mean a whole heap of trouble. I was pretty good at staying out of jail but after a few years it all caught up to me and I was remanded. The amount of bail they were asking was very high and there was no way I could pay it. And I was looking at a very long jail term if I was found guilty, which I was pretty sure was going to happen. I wanted to have a day or two of freedom to tie up some loose ends. The guy in the cell next to me mentioned a bail bonds agent he had used in the past. I got the guy’s number and gave him a call.
He told me he could take care of my bail bonds. South Carolina has a justice system that can be a bit slow, but he got me out in no time. We talked for a bit and I told him I was sure I was going to get some jail time. He told me to call him when I got out and we’d go for coffee, talk about things.
I ended up getting two years and during that time really cleaned myself up. I called the bail bonds agent when I got out and we talked. He gave me a job out of his Michigan bail bonds office and I’ve been slowly learning the trade. Seems I have a real knack for it.
