As a freelance writer, one niche or area of expertise that I have carved out for myself is writing about real estate. It all started out with a rather ordinary gig: a blog I maintained about Denver real estate for a local real estate agent. However, I worked on that blog for about a year, and as a result had the experience to get a gig as a copywriter for a Florida real estate agent.

I worked on this real estate agent’s website for a little while, writing about Jacksonville real estate and neighboring areas. His site offered a real estate search feature that made the site interesting to work on. Now I’ve got a gig writing articles for another Florida real estate agent’s newsletter, which is published in an impressive newspaper format every couple of months.

Because of just one gig, I was able to build up my experience in this lucrative niche, which should demonstrate the value for freelance writers of taking jobs that they don’t necessarily have a lot of experience in. Just because you don’t have experience in a niche, doesn’t mean you will never be able to break into it!
