Improvements to Make to Your Home

You’ve probably heard someone say to leave something better than you found it. That’s a great rule of thumb for house ownership — leave it better than you found it. Making improvements will help to increase the value of the home, and depending on how much the housing market increases while you own the home, you could really end up with quite a return on your investment.

Remodeling the kitchen and the bathroom are two of the biggest improvements people make to their homes — and two of the most important that potential buyers look for when shopping for a home, so it will almost always help with the value and the sale. Interior and exterior paint are an inexpensive improvement that you can make. New carpet or refinishing the hardwood are also good ways to increase the value — not to mention its appeal to buyers.

Another thing you can do is improve the exterior features. For instance, people love cookouts and barbeques, so Cal Flame BBQ islands and drop in grills are good improvements to make to your home. You may also consider improving the outdoor seating arrangements with a deck, patio, or gazebo. And of course, landscaping is always a great way to improve curbe appeal!

What are some other ways you can think of to improve a home and increase its value?

I strongly agree about the kitchen and bathroom. Whenever I look at a house or even an apartment, the first thing I look at is the kitchen and bathroom.

Another thing I also look at is the windows. I love sunlight so I always want to make sure that the living room and my bedroom will have a lot of light coming in.

    Great post!

    Great post!

And I agree 100%. The kitchen and the bathroom are the most important parts of the house and should always look good! These are the first ones I always check whenever I check out a place.

I can’t really do too much with my backyard because there isn’t much space to build barbecue grills. So instead I invest in furniture and plants.

My husband loves gardening so that’s not a problem for me. And I love to shop for furniture. Perfect combination!

We recently constructed (well my husband did) an outdoor deck at the back.

    I love it!

During the weekends, we eat our breakfast out there. I love it so much that we rarely leave the house. It’s the perfect excuse to spend quality time with the family.

It’s easy to be overwhelmed with all the possible remodeling for a home. The easiest way to do is to take it one step at a time.

This is a great list to start with because these are really the major parts that can be improved. Thanks for the info!

One thing I always wanted was that bathtub with the claw feet. My hubby promised me and when we got our home, that’s exactly what he did.

Hmm. I might have trouble letting go of this house when we decide to sell it.

I love to cook so the kitchen is always the first room I scrutinize. Sometimes it’s not about what’s in there but what can be done. If it already has all the stuff I want, then that’s fine. But if it doesn’t, I have to assess what has to be done and if I can do it. If I can’t, then that affects our decision.
