Not Exactly a Rock Star

I used to play guitar a lot. When I was a teen, I can’t imagine the Hell my parents went through as I spent hours practicing in my room. Their idea of music was Perry Como. My idea of music was something a little more along the lines of Van Halen. All I know for sure is that I was convinced that when I grew up I would be a rock star. Well I’m all grown up now, and (who would have guessed) I’m not a rock star.
Instead, I am in information technology. So instead of reading sheet music or tablature, you might find me reading a Shon Harris book. Everyone knows that Eddie Van Halen is a great guitarist; few people know that Shon Harris is a leader in the field of information technology security training though. Seriously, there is no way to make my career in IT sound even remotely as exciting as it would have been if the whole rock star gig would have worked out.
Well I’m not about to quit my day job, but I have been playing with a couple other people. We have kind of formed a garage band, and we are starting to sound pretty good. If we can put together maybe one more hour of material, I think we’ll be good to go as far as maybe even picking up a few gigs playing at local bars.
